First Time Using a Mac

And it is the most confusing piece of machinery I have ever dealt with. The Command button is the Ctrl button; the Control button is really Alt; the Option button, the says Alt in it’s upper right corner, is really just some piece of stylistic trickery the Steve Jobs placed on the keyboard as a big middle finger to Bill Gates and the folks at IBM.

Rrabbit’s Fanfiction: In Which Draco is Still Pretty Much a Bad Guy

Rrabbit’s Fanfiction: In Which Draco is Still Pretty Much a Bad Guy

Site: FF.Net

Rating: M

Ship: Draco/Ginny

Warning: Dark. Stockholm Syndrome. Rough to downright violent and non-consensual sex. Angst like you wouldn’t know.

I saw a post earlier where someone was talking about how people shouldn’t ignore the first five books, where Draco’s an outright dick, and pretend that he was always a victim. I think that person is right. I am a fan of Draco Malfoy, but I don’t think we shouldn’t pretend he wasn’t a jackass for a good portion of his life. Do I think he could’ve changed? Yes. Anyone can change with the right influences. Apparently Draco did not have very much of these.

In all actuality, it’s more in tune with the series if you write a dickish Draco Malfoy, who just so happened to be victimized in some way, than to write a victimized Draco Malfoy, who takes it out on people by being dickish. Let’s be serious, he’s suffered enough of an emasculation in the books and the movies. I say why not let him be a bad man? He doesn’t have to be evil, but he doesn’t have to be friends with Harry either. We all know that fanfiction is at its best when the characterization remains the same, regardless of the setting.

In any case, I present to you a fanfic writer who realizes that Draco Malfoy is, in fact, a bad man. Rrabbit (rrabbit) has about eight stories on Fanfiction.Net, six of which I have read. Seven featuring a very villainous to just plain dickish Draco Malfoy. This writer makes no excuses – okay, maybe some – for Mr. Malfoy’s behavior. In fact she actually makes him a bit worse. In the end though, it makes for some great psychological drama.

So for all those chicks who like to say Draco’s a victim, and the rest of us who know that he isn’t and love him anyway, rrabbit is the fanfic author for you-

If you like Draco/Ginny fanfiction. Forgot about that part, lol.

Warning: Not much of one, it’s rated T.

So, as I announced a few days ago, I’ve recently decided to check out Misfits fanfiction. I am currently on a Simon/Alisha trip, although I think that I should eventually check out some Nathan/Simon fics because it was teased a bit in the show. Curtis is apparently able to date anybody, and, as much as I loved the implied Nathan/Kelly, I was fine with them staying friends. All in all, I can say that this fandom’s fanfiction – what I’ve seen of it – is pretty okay. Everything in the M rating seemed good enough to not have to be erased from my history, so that I wouldn’t fall into the good summary-horrible story trap that many fanfics seem to turn out to be.

Unfortunately, a lot of the Misfits fanfictions that I have read seem to love to lift scenes, scenarios and dialogue from the show. That’s entirely fine in small doses, but why would I want to read a fanfic that rehashes, scene for scene, Alisha and Simon’s relationship, as shown on my television? No, that’s not what I’m here for.

The problem with Alisha and Simon’s relationship is that it is an infinite loop of her dying, him traveling back in time to save her, her falling in love with future him, future him dying, her falling in love with current him, current him falling in love with her, them dating, her dying, him going back in time to save her. That’s cool and all, but how many times do I really need to have this story told? I like a good Alisha/Simon sex scene as much as the next fan, but I’d love to see them come out of this infinite loop.

In this story (finally, I know), the author begins at Alisha’s and Simon’s deaths and transports them back to the night of Curtis’s arrest (which is something like a year before Alisha’s death). With their memories still intact, they meetup and form plans to break the infinite loop that was their love life.

If Misfits ever needed a season where stuff actually worked out, this would be it.

This was honestly the Misfits fanfic that I was looking for. It’s technically AU because it’s a new timeline; their powers aren’t the same because Simon and Alisha (having lived those lives already) have become different people; there are new villains and scenarios – less dead probation workers. Lots of character growth and exploration, and Jamie might live – Lord knows I want him to.

Honestly, it is a very well done piece. And what’s really awesome is that the author is using a lot tidbits dropped in the shows webisodes, twitter and tumblr personalities. She’s a dedicated fan writing a truly great fanfiction. I love it.

If I had a rating system, I’d give this one 4.5 to 5 stars. Unfortunately, I don’t have one, but I wouldn’t be recommending this fanfic if I didn’t think it was worth the read.

It is, so go read it.

Dear A Song of Ice and Fire (and Game of Thrones) Fandom

We should write up a list of all of the minor story lines (or story lines of minor characters) within the series. I would say that we should cross them off the list when they are concluded, but I think the better idea would be to add an explanation of the particular story line (including its ending) instead.

Anybody up for this? Has anyone started doing this? Let me know.

I for one would like to know what happened to Tyrek Lannister. He disappeared during the riots in King’s Landing and not so much as a finger was recovered.

Until we meet again, dueces.

I thought, and still think, that this is a great idea because there’s honestly a ridiculous amount of minor story lines going on in the story and I love how George handles them. I just want a blog that takes the time to track all of these minor stories, collect them and categorize them neatly for other fans to enjoy. Is that too much to ask?

Warning: Your mind will be blown

This story is the precursor to a what if; basically the idea part, if you really think about it, but it’s done so well that it works as a standalone piece. The idea is, what if Simon had planned everything about his relationship with Alisha from the beginning?

When I first began to read it, I honestly thought that I was going to get a  cute Alisha/Simon story out, possibly something from during the three months. The summary actually says, ‘Simon was always the smart one”. To say that I wasn’t blown away by this short would be to blatantly lie.

This story is a must for Simon/Alisha fans. It’s a quick read, entirely first person and has very little dialogue, but I promise you it’s worth the read.

Ship: Narcissa/Lucius

Warning: More angst than you know what to do with.

This is one of those betrothal fics, mostly Pre-Voldemort. Lucius is kind of a recluse, whereas Narcissa is entirely in love with somebody else. They’re forced to get married and, while Lucius grows to love her, Narcissa resists forever and a day.  It actually angered me how long she held out, but she eventually comes around – only for a new wrench to be thrown in their already fragile relationship.

This is one of those fanfics that makes you feel bad for Lucius. It’s nothing too bad, but dude just can’t catch a break in love. It’s currently still in progress, and the author can take a while, but with forty chapters and those handy Story Alerts, I say it’s going quite fine.

This fic is definitely worth checking out. Anyone else read it?

Warning: Your childhood will be ruined.

Pre-read: I am just as shocked as you are that this fanfic even exists. Goof Troop was probably my most favorite of all the Disney cartoons, for the theme song alone, but I NEVER expected there to be fanfiction about it, or even slash fanfiction. But there is, and now I have to read it just to give it a fair review. I wasn’t even looking for this, to be honest; I was in the process of switching to the Books category when the Goof Troop fanfics caught my eye. I cannot accurately express my shock – without using my favorite gif.

Post-Read: Oh my Jebus … while that was handled quite well … PJ and Goofy … lawd. I give the author props for not making it more dramatic than it needed to be. It was surprisingly well written considering the characters. Honestly, it’s pretty good right up until the sex scene, which might have been satisfactory if it wasn’t for the simple fact that it was PJ and Goofy – so, of course, I didn’t read that part.

Do I recommend it? If you can get over your childhood being ruined, sure. If not, I’m sure this author has other selections of the non-Disney variety.

Ship: Wolfstar (Sirius/Remus)

Warning: Not much yet

Kay so, this one is set in the 1970s. Sirius is in a band, Remus is a journalist sent to go on tour with them for a month. Friendliness ensues.

I feel like this fic ended, but I can’t remember if the ending was a happy one. I remember reading another Wolfstar fanfic, that also involved Sirius being in a band, at the same time as I was reading this one. The latter fanfic was more drama-ridden, which is saying  a lot since this one involved a Sirius that loved to love, but didn’t quite know what it is to be in love. And this Remus is so normal, that the whole experience is almost like walking through the wardrobe into Narnia. For him at least; not for you guys, you all just get a nice story about gay guys in what could be ’70s England. Don’t ask me, I spent my formative years in the States.

So I got to the extreme end of the My Soul To Take tag

All that movie really needed was a tweaking of the script and some better execution – and an R rating. It was good though.

Admittedly, I wasn’t too happy about the Asian [kid] being the first to die, but black people have fought to be second to last kill. Then the Christian couldn’t go first, and you didn’t quite know if the Cheerleader was a virgin or no, so that left the jock, the best friend and the asian. The best friend was the killer, the jock had a storyline, so the Asian kid was the most likely to get killed first.

Technically, he was not the first kill, but he was definitely the first of the main victims.

I don’t like that the best friend died. I freaking love the voice changes though. It makes the reveal really awesome.

This movie could have been a lot better, but I’m a horror lover and I think that this should be added to the collection. If I’m famous in about twenty years, I think I’ll take a stab at a remake.

That’s all for now though. Dueces,
