Edit: I forgot that I had used this title before.
My friends love to tease me about how it seems like I only date white guys. Not because I actually only date white guys (I don’t), but because my last two physically present boyfriends were white and the guy I’m currently dating is also white. So it looks like I only date white guys.
It’s not a bad thing. I’m honestly convinced that I probably wouldn’t have done any dating in the last five years had I not decided to go out with these white guys, but I can’t see myself ever preferring them over any particular race. I can’t see myself anyone over West Indian guys because, duh, soca is life. Still, I’ve learned somethings about myself from these relationships.
Like, I like hikes. Or rather, I like to take walks around parks and stuff, and if it happens to take me through some woods and up the side of a mountain, then that’s cool too. And I never would have known this had I not dated a white guy who was obsessed with being active everyday.
Now, admittedly, a lot of my walks are through neighborhood parks in my county, but some times I actually get to visit new places. Like Central Park.
Last June, I was in New York with my mom for Caribbean week, and it was my very first time in the city so I felt like I had to visit Central Park. So I hopped on the subway and made my way there.
It was a really nice experience, especially once you begin to recognize the different pathways from a ridiculous amount of movies. I was honestly ecstatic to see the tunnel where Chuck proposed to Blair on Gossip Girl (they were my favorite ship).
However, I also realized that Central Park was way too big for me to walk it in the little bit of time that I did have. And – because I am not from New York – it was terribly easy to get lost in. I’m told that my Snapchats from that point in my trip were terribly funny.
Still, it was nice being able to get out and experience something new.
