Review Roundup – December 21st to 27th, 2020

As we head toward the end of 2021, I say goodbye to two series.

While Amarie Avant is up next for an author spotlight, I can’t help but think that Milana Jacks is writing a subset of the kind of romance I’d like to see more of.

Fearless III by Amarie Avant

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Vassili and Zariah Resnov have a problem: Vassili’s crazy younger siblings want to kill their father and take over the Bratva with Vassili as a puppet king. Except, nothing is ever so simple.

The conclusion to Fearless was pretty good, all things considered. The usual mistakes were apparent, but, thankfully, no name mistakes. One could argue that the amount of sex was unnecessary, but it was par for the course and pretty on brand for the couple.

I think I would have appreciated more of an epilogue, but I understand that Vassili and Zariah will be making appearances in Lawless, so there’s that. It might not have been Avant’s best, but it was still pretty good.

The Blind Hordesman by Milana Jacks

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Riki Lee, called Kiki, was made to do great things. Just not what she was intended to, especially not after she meets the Blind Hordesman, Seer.

This series has been exceptionally good, particularly considering I’ve skipped at least two books. In this age of interspecies romance (and the emergence of the Omegaverse), I really didn’t expect to be so about these characters.

There was at least one plot hole that you might not even notice, but it is an otherwise solidly written and edited book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes good smut with their fantasy/sci-fi reads. Milana Jacks really seems to know what she’s doing.
