MNEK Is My Greatest Musical Find

Bold words, right? But you have to understand where I’m coming from.

Way back in 2014, I taught at a high school that managed to block just about every music app except SoundCloud. For me this was terribly unacceptable because my personal music library could only do so much. So I downloaded SoundCloud and made it work. At some point in the Fall of 2014, I found MNEK’s “The Rhythm” and my whole life changed.

[Review] Allen Stone’s Radius

If you’ve read any of my writings since 2012, you’ll be very much aware that I am an Allen Stone fan. He was introduced to me by my friend, Bunny, with whom I run the fan Tumblr, FYeahAllenStone. I want to say that he was suggested to me in March of 2012, and, by May, I was at fangirl status as far as his music was concerned. He was my very first non-church related concert; the experience is something that Bunny and I, along with our friend, Dee, still talk about to be this day. It was so good, that we went to see him play almost the exact same setlist 5 months later, and another modified version in August of 2014. So when I tell you that I have been waiting years for this album, I mean it.

Before I go any further, I want to let it be known that I write this review as a fan dedicated to this man’s work. This album is definitely worth your money and your time, but if you want an unbiased review that just says “YASSS, this album is great!!!” and gives it some random rating, you need to go elsewhere.

Supergirl Could Be Great, But It Needs Work

The Supergirl pilot leaked this week, and I was way too curious to not watch it. I, of course, had many opinions about it, so a friend of mine asked me to write them down so that he could share it on his blog as a criticism from the female perspective. To be honest, I don’t know if my opinion can be considered the female perspective, simply because I don’t view it as such. However, here’s my opinion of this particular show as someone who has spent years enjoying television, and loves superhero shows.

The REI Summer Festival

Editor’s Note: All of the band names are links to separate Tumblr posts about each performance.

So when Allen Stone released his new tour list, I was quite a bit sad because he didn’t seem to have any Houston dates. My FYeahAllenStone co-blogger, Bunny, had already decided we were all gonna make the Austin show in October, since we hadn’t seen him the last time he was in Houston. We’d already heard the setlist twice and had no interest in making it a third time. This new tour though? It promised new material AND a new album.

There’s Something About Sam Smith

I got into a new music artist, and I want to tell you about him. Can I tell you about him? It doesn’t matter, you’re on my blog so you’re going to read about him anyway.

The Asus Vivo Smart Tab

So after the travesty that was my experience with the Surface 2, I had a long conversation with my stepfather about PC-replacement tablets. He reminded my that he had been using the Asus Vivo during his last visit, and proceeded to tell me about how he was so pleased with it, that he ended up ordering about 6 more for the rest of his office. He commented about how his boss had even gotten rid of his laptop in place of it.

So of course, I had to try it.

Microsoft’s Surface 2

I have a headache.

That’s how I feel at almost an hour of playing around with the Surface 2. Oh it’s pretty. Microsoft definitely went all out on its PC replacement – and it’s definitely a replacement, because this thing refers to itself as a PC. I don’t know if the battery life leaves much to be desired for the simple fact that I just turned it on and started using it. Microsoft could have probably fixed that problem, but there was no “Charge Device Before Using” type of directives, so I just turned this thing on and rolled with it. The 5-10 minutes of configuration might be a hindrance, but I customized this device to my specifications, so that might have been a factor.

Movie Review: Joyful Noise

I’d be a damn liar if I said I actually paid money to see this movie, simply because I never actually cared to see this movie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dolly Parton and Keke Palmer (usually), but me and Queen Latifah ain’t been jelling since Set It Off (which is a fave of mine). However, since my pastor hosted a free private screening, I am obliged to give this movie a review. Plus I needed a new entry.

I honestly thought I would have hated it. Let’s be honest, black movies, musicals and Christian movies bank rolled by Hollywood have been having some extra mediocre scripts lately. However, Joyful Noise was not bad at all.
